Natural Remedies for Asthma

Asthma is a disease related to respiratory system. When the lungs get filled with cough or any foreign body enters into the windpipe it causes partial blocking or irritation. This condition is termed as asthma. This is a common disease which affects nearly 10-20% of the total world population. It affects people of all the ages; however it is very common amongst the children. In most of the cases the disease being mild is often not recognized and is left untreated.

Natural Remedies for Asthma

Omega Fatty Acids

One of the primary inflammation-causing fats in our diets is believed to be arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is found in certain foods, such as egg yolks, shellfish, and meat. Eating less of these foods is thought to decrease inflammation and asthma symptoms.

A German study examined data from 524 children and found that asthma was more prevalent in children with high levels of arachidonic acid.

Arachidonic acid can also be produced in our bodies. Another strategy to reduce levels of arachidonic acid is to increase intake of beneficial fats such as EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) from fish oil, and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) from borage or evening primrose oil.

Omega-3 fatty acid capsules are sold in drug stores, health food stores and online. Look for the active ingredients EPA and DHA on the label.

This is where a fine line of distinction is found between Western Medicine and Holistic Medicine. Holistic Medicine seeks to restore the body to a normal state of healthy, optimum operation, whereby Western Medicine seeks to suppress symptoms which are the bread crumb trail leading to a real solution to asthma. Chemical drugs are used, such as steroids, to treat the symptoms of asthma. There is no such thing as a harmless steroid. The latest scientific research points to the fact that the body’s delicate endocrine system may be permanently damaged from the first use of a steroid.

The Role of Salt and Water and Asthma

Any time an asthmatic experiences difficulty in breathing, the dry cough signals imminent danger, he or she should quickly take two or three glasses of water,  one after another, and then put a pinch of salt on the tongue. Salt shortage in the diet can be a contributing factor in asthma attacks.  Developing a feeling of nausea when you drink water is a sign of SALT SHORTAGE in the body.
